Veteran's Day

Friday November 11th is Veteran's Day. Each year, Ms. Leom makes a point to introduce students to the importance of Veteran's Day.

We talk about, "What is Veteran's Day"?

We consider, "Who is a Veteran?"

We have other learning goals. Students need to USE the features of informational text to locate information. We talk about headings, pictures, captions, maps, and more.

Students also need to know how to USE key words from a questions to help them find information in the text.

Students receive a packet of information on Veteran's Day, what is it, who is is, when is it, the history, as well as the symbols of the United States, and more about each. Using questions, students work with a partner to answer related questions.

When students finish, they have the opportunity to read about the symbols of the United States and more that interest them.

We value and appreciate all of our veterans, their families, and their friends. We appreciate their sacrifices. It is important to learn more about Veteran's Day, so we can learn how to be appreciative.
