Spelling Week 3 is Challenging Plurals. Not going to lie, this is a tough week to teach. There aren't clear rules.
So we do our best to break it down. The page is on Ms. Leom's CleverTouch board, and it is available on Google Classroom for students to view up close. We broke up each part of this week's examples.
Ms. Leom introduced the weekly homework, and explained how to do it. The directions say to 'match' the words. But research indicates that students do not learn how to spell the words by matching. So Ms. Leom changed the directions to rewrite the word. We went through several examples. This week, students need to rewrite the words twice. After they "match" the words, by writing the plural, students have to write the word a second time in the graphic organizer. Students came up to the board to help.
Then we went over the backside of the homework. This week, students need to write the plural form of the words. We took time to look up the plural form of each word in the word bank, using our notes, the dictionary, and what we know. We tackled the two toughest examples together.
Ms. Leom teaches each lesson twice. This is what the learning looked like for Mr. Greninger's students.
It may be a challenging lesson to learn, but when we work together, we are successful!
