Setting Up

This week, we started to set up our iPads. We use an app called "Self Service". In this app, all the school approved apps are available. We have a list of apps we use in fourth grade. When students start up their iPads for the first time, they register the iPad in their name. Then within "ten minutes to three hours" the self service app will (is supposed to) appear, and students can begin the set up. With this in mind, we register, then put the iPads on the cart for over lunch or over night, and by the time we pick them up, the self service app is (should) be ready to go ...

Maybe other people have different experiences with technology, or maybe it is the shear number of (over forty) iPads Ms. Leom was working with ... but not all the iPads had Self Service appear. Sometimes the passwords don't work ... when you have an email that has a lot of parts - if Ms. Leom was a fourth grader her email would be: 2027leommichele@students.milaca.k12.mn.us - and if you forget one digit, dot, letter, or duplicate, or substitute, it doesn't work. At all. Then it seems half the class forgets a digit, dot, letter, duplicates, or substitutes ... the problem solving is in high gear. Often there are friendly, willing, and helpful students who step in. Thankfully there are patient students who wait as she tries to navigate all the various needs and ten screens of the processes ...

Three days later, and we are still working on it. We are down to two student iPads who are not with the Self Service program yet ... there were numerous emails to the IT staff, and in all the work of multiple (over forty) passwords, Ms. Leom only locked up one iPad and locked herself out of another program once. She might need to find some way to show appreciation to the IT staff and their patience (with her).

Still setting up ...
